How Twiss Approaches Responsible AI: Our Principles and Why They Matter

There is a lot of excitement around AI right now. New tools launch every week promising to transform the way we create content, run businesses, and communicate with customers. Most of those tools focus on one thing: what the AI can do. Very few talk about how the AI does it and whether it does it responsibly.

At Twiss, we think the how matters just as much as the what. Building an AI content tool is not just a technical challenge. It is an ethical one. The decisions we make about how our system generates images, handles data, treats different communities, and charges for its services all have real consequences for real people.

This post is about those decisions. We want to be transparent about the principles that guide our work, the problems we are actively trying to solve, and the areas where we know we still have room to improve.

Diversity Is Not a Feature. It Is a Responsibility.

One of the most common problems with AI image generators is bias. Most models are trained on datasets that overrepresent certain demographics and underrepresent others. The result is that when you ask for a person, you tend to get the same narrow range of appearances. And when models do generate diverse faces, the quality often drops. Skin tones get washed out. Hair textures look unnatural. Ethnic features get subtly altered to look more like the dominant group in the training data.

We take this seriously at Twiss. When you select an ethnicity in our tool, the AI is given explicit instructions to render that person with accurate skin tones, natural hair textures, and authentic features. We do not lighten dark skin. We do not straighten textured hair. We do not alter facial features to conform to any single beauty standard.

We also invest time in testing our outputs across different ethnicities to make sure the quality is consistent. A South Asian woman should look just as photorealistic as a Scandinavian man. A Black woman with 4C curls should look just as natural as someone with straight hair. Equal quality is not optional. It is the baseline.

This is not something we can solve once and move on. Bias in AI is an ongoing challenge, and we constantly review and refine our prompts and parameters to improve representation. We are not perfect at it, but we are committed to getting better.

Privacy: We Do Not Need Your Life Story

A lot of AI tools ask for more information than they actually need. Email, phone number, company name, job title, social media profiles. Some even require you to describe your use case before they let you try the product. We think that is unnecessary.

Twiss lets you try the tool before you create an account. When you do sign up, we ask for the minimum amount of information required to give you a good experience: an email and a password. That is it.

Your uploaded images are processed for generation purposes and are not used to train AI models. We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not track your browsing behaviour beyond what is needed for basic session management. We use cookies for authentication, not surveillance.

We are not going to pretend we have invented some revolutionary privacy framework. We have just tried to follow a simple rule: do not collect data you do not need, and do not use data for purposes the user did not agree to.

AI Hallucinations: The Problem Nobody Likes to Talk About

If you have used any AI image generator, you have probably seen the failures. Extra fingers. Three hands instead of two. Products that appear distorted or duplicated. Models holding phantom objects that nobody asked for. Text on products that looks like it was written by someone having a stroke.

These are called hallucinations, and they are one of the biggest challenges in AI image generation. Every tool has them. Every single one. The question is not whether hallucinations happen, but what you do about them.

At Twiss, we take a multi-layered approach to reducing hallucinations. Our system uses detailed product analysis to understand what the uploaded product actually looks like before generating anything. The AI receives explicit instructions about anatomy (exactly two hands, exactly five fingers per hand, no extra limbs), product fidelity (reproduce the exact packaging, labels, and colours from the reference image), and scene consistency (no random objects appearing in the scene).

We also continuously review real user outputs to identify new types of hallucinations as they emerge. When we spot a pattern, like products appearing distorted when placed on surfaces, or models holding books that nobody asked for, we update our prompts to specifically prevent that issue.

Does this eliminate hallucinations completely? No. AI image generation is inherently probabilistic, and sometimes the output will be imperfect. That is why we always recommend reviewing your generated images before using them. But our hallucination rate is significantly lower than tools that do not invest in this kind of prompt engineering, and we work on improving it every week.

Fair Pricing: No Tricks, No Traps

The pricing model for AI tools has become increasingly predatory. Free tiers that are deliberately crippled to push you toward expensive subscriptions. Monthly plans that auto-renew and are difficult to cancel. Usage-based pricing that is impossible to predict. Enterprise tiers that require a sales call and a multi-year commitment.

We wanted to do something simpler. Twiss gives you free credits to try the tool without any commitment. No credit card required, no time limit, no watermarks. Ever. If you like what you see and want more, you can buy credits at a straightforward price. One credit equals one image. No subscriptions, no recurring charges, no hidden fees.

Is our pricing perfect? Probably not. But we believe that transparent and predictable pricing is a form of respect for the user, and we would rather charge fairly and keep customers long-term than trick people into paying more than they expected.

Honesty About What AI Can and Cannot Do

One of the things that bothers us about the AI industry right now is the tendency to oversell capabilities. Tools claim to produce professional photography when the outputs are clearly synthetic. Marketing pages promise flawless results when the technology still has obvious limitations.

We try to be honest about what Twiss can do and what it cannot. Our images are good. They are often very good. But they are generated by AI, and AI is not perfect. Sometimes the output will have subtle issues that need to be caught by a human eye. That is why we include a disclaimer on our creation pages reminding users that AI-generated content should be reviewed before use.

We also do not hide the fact that our images are AI-generated. We think transparency builds trust, and trust is more valuable than the short-term benefit of pretending your AI outputs are real photographs.

Your Content Belongs to You

When you generate an image with Twiss, it is yours. You can use it commercially, post it on social media, put it on your website, print it on packaging. We do not claim ownership of your outputs and we do not use your generated images to train our models without your consent.

This might seem like it should be obvious, but a surprising number of AI tools have terms of service that give them broad rights to user-generated content. We think that is wrong. You paid for the generation, or you earned it through free credits. The result is yours.

What We Are Still Working On

We do not want to give the impression that we have everything figured out. There are areas where we know we need to improve.

Our hallucination reduction is good but not perfect. Complex scenes with multiple products or unusual angles still produce errors more often than we would like. We are working on better validation systems to catch these before they reach the user.

Our diversity testing is ongoing. We regularly discover edge cases where certain combinations of ethnicity, style, and background produce subpar results, and we fix them as we find them. But we know there are gaps we have not discovered yet.

Our environmental impact is something we think about but have not fully addressed. AI image generation uses significant computational resources, and we want to be more transparent about the carbon footprint of our service. This is an area we plan to invest in over the coming months.

Why This Matters

AI tools are going to play an increasingly important role in how businesses create content. The decisions that AI companies make today about ethics, privacy, diversity, and pricing will shape the industry for years to come.

We do not think responsible AI is a competitive disadvantage. We think it is a competitive advantage. Users who trust your tool use it more. Users who feel represented by your outputs become loyal customers. Users who understand your pricing recommend you to others.

Building AI responsibly is harder than building AI carelessly. It takes more time, more testing, and more willingness to admit when things are not working. But we believe it is the right thing to do, and we believe the results speak for themselves.

If you want to try Twiss and see these principles in action, head to the create page and generate your first image. Then zoom in. Look at the skin texture, the hair, the product details. And know that behind every output, there is a team that cares about getting it right.
